RECESSION SHOPPING

Yesterday my Dad asked me to run a few errands, one of which was to stop at Walmart to pick up cough syrup and various other hygiene products for him. Though I wouldn't usually think of shopping for clothes or accessories at Walmart, I stumbled across some surprisingly cute items!

I was Excited when I found this fedora...I haven't invested in one yet because i'm not sure if I can pull it off, and didn't want to spend too much on a hat I would never end up wearing.
For $7.00 it was worth a try!

Before I try to convince you that these Walmart version Hanky Pankys are just as good as the real thing, let me tell you that I am very picky about my undergarments and have never bought a non-designer brand. These panties fit just like Hanky Pankys and were $3.00!

AN OBSESSION WITH PINK HOTELS

Since Hawaii was welcomed as a part of the United States and when Americans began cruising to the island of Oahu in the 1930's my family has been staying at Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Hearing stories from my grandmother of the vacations she took with her family to the very place and hotel that we love makes my favorite vacation spot that much more special.

Though wedding planing has taken a back seat to job hunting, I still spend time researching the perfect venue. I will always be partial to a destination wedding at the Royal Hawaiian, but have found there are other fabulous "pink" hotels around the globe!

SHANGHAI'S BARBIE SPA

Naturally I would be interested in Shanghai's new "Barbie Spa", not only because of the simple fact that it's a Barbie spa, but hat it's in my very favorite city! I returned form Shanghai, China eight months ago after living there for one year, and never heard of the Barbie Spa opening! The photos look so pretty and fun! I would have loved to spend some time there :)

MONDAY NIGHT BLUE-CHEESE-STUFFED FILTES

As a little Monday night pick-me-up I decided to give this simple recipe a shot. I found it on food network's website, prepared by a new host from the show 5 Ingredient Fix. I really enjoy this new show especially because every dish prepared requires five ingredients or less. Here is my shot at the recipe for...

Blue-Cheese-Stuffed Filets

The Star of the show...besides the filets themselves of course!

Slicing blue-cheese butter pads and stuffing the filets...

His

Her's

Blue-Cheese-Stuffed Fillets

Ingredients

8 ounces (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 teaspoons coarse grey sea salt
6 ounces Roquefort or Stilton cheese, cut into chunks
4 to 6 ounces beef fillets, good quality and at least 2-inches high
Freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Directions

In a food processor, pulse butter until
whipped, and add salt and cheese. Pulse again just until incorporated. Dollop the compound butter towards 1
side of a piece of natural parchment paper or plastic wrap. Roll into a log, twisting opposite ways on both
ends to create a tightly wrapped log of butter. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set. (Can be stored up to 1
week in the refrigerator and up to 1 month in the freezer.) This could be made into 2 logs, as you will only
need half this recipe for the steaks.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Once butter log is set, slice 1/2 the whole log into 1/4-inch disks. Cut a slit in the side of each fillet,
and stuff with a butter disk. Tie each fillet with kitchen twine to keep it shape and sprinkle pepper each
side.

Add the olive oil to a large oven-proof skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear each fillet until brown
on both sides, about 3 to 5 minutes per side. Move skillet into the preheated oven to cook to desired
doneness. Put another disk of the compound butter on top of each fillet just about 3 minutes before removing
from oven, to just begin to melt but not melted completely. Remove from the oven and place on serving plates.
Eat and enjoy!

THEY'RE HERE!

We picked up our new little additions this past weekend and though my fiance is taking a little while to warm up to them, I couldn't be happier! They are adorable, fun and easy to care for! Just look at those little faces... how could you not instantly fall in love with them!

I'm trying out a new recipe tonight... blue cheese crusted filets and will post all about it tomorrow!

FIVE THINGS I LOVE RIGHT NOW

I admit that i'm at least partially ADD and things I fall in love with come in and out of my life in a whirl... But at least for today, these are the things I love!

<3

My new Blackberry Bold (soon to be crystalized)

The Singaporean/ Chinese blogger Xiaxue's camera

Kim Kardashian's eyebrows

Matte white eye shadow

My new Kate Spade wallet

OUR LIL' HAMLING

Little animals are irresistible to me and I am so excited that I have finally convinced my fiance to allow us to get our own! I decided on a Dwarf Roborovski with cream and white fur :) I haven't decided on a name yet but have narrowed it down to either Laoshoo which means mouse in Chinese or Wo Shyuan Lyu which means My Melody (the Sanrio character). We are picking her up from a hamster breeder for a better chance of it having a mellow temperament <3
