I love the holidays and any excuse to celebrate or decorate!
The only problem is, im a bit overly picky; and sometimes I feel like the holiday decor available in the stores is a bit commercialized, pricy and can be tacky.
This is the first Christmas that my fiance and I are living together so Ive had fun making our place cozy and Christmasy for not only Bao and I but now for the three of us lol!
I wanted to add an advent calendar to our place to rev up the holiday season and have a bit of fun. I looked everywhere for one but kept telling myself I could make one that fit my aesthetic better. After a few mistakes, and a couple trips back to the craft store, it finally came together!
We decided that we would choose the even days of the month; eight gifts for each of us, (Nick, Bao and I). We had a $10 limit and the small gift had to fit in the pouch. Finding small and inexpensive gifts wasn't easy!
We have a wet bar nook that may have once been a closet, so I nailed two small nails in the sides, where the door hinges might have once been.
I hung mirrored garland from West Elm (last year) and a strand of white pom poms from the craft store. I used three strands of sturdy white and silver rope where I hung the gift pouches from.
I bought mini wooden clothes pins and wooden heart cutouts which I painted silver and embellished with silver glitter. I glued some hearts to the pins and left some plain.
The canvas bags are from the container store.
I wrote the dates one each one with a silver paint pen.
Here is the calendar, all finished and ready to be filled!
I hope you love it and will try to recreate it for your family!
Its such a fun and inexpensive project that gets everyone involved!
